How Do Video Security Systems Work

Video security systems can be installed using one camera or multiple cameras. The purpose of installing a video security system is to record any possible criminal activity during a 24 hour period. Therefore, a lot of businesses install video security systems for security; however, a lot of homes also install their own private video security systems.

The video camera transfers the recordings into a central location, either to an office, closet, etc. The video can then be monitored by an individual for security, or replayed for evidence after a criminal activity. Video recordings were normally saved in VCRs, which can record 24 hours of footage. However, as technology became more advanced, more businesses and homes have opted to save video footage on hard drives. This will allow them to record more footage. Furthermore, saving footage onto a hard drive will also take less room, in comparison to saving individual VCRs for every 24 hour footage.

Businesses and homes, while installing their cameras, will either choose to make them visible, or hide them. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages. Making the camera visible will help deter criminals from committing crimes, especially amateur criminals, who also tend to be the most dangerous because of their inexperience. Hidden cameras, on the other hand, will prevent criminals from finding out the cameras’ blind spots.
