Why ADT’s digital video surveillance is right for you

ADT is a leader in security for both residential and commercial customers, and the company’s Select Vision service is one reason why.  Select Vision gives users the ability to manage multiple digital video recorders (DVRs) with one application, giving security teams an all-seeing eye over their domain.  Digital video also makes it easy to handle video after the fact, whether you need to view previously recorded footage, save video to hard drives, or e-mail it.

ADT has proof of how well their system works.  Consider their case study in which a major regional financial institution (known in the study only as “the Bank”) approached ADT to upgrade their security systems.  By implementing their new DVR technologies, ADT was able to improve surveillance and efficiency.  The new surveillance standard also made training easier, helped to eliminate false alarms, and reduced overall costs of security.

The history of CCTV

Everybody who walks into a supermarket is familiar with closed-circuit television.  Step through the doors, look up and wave, and ta-dah!  You’re on television!  If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about this beneficial technology, you’ve come to the right place.

CCTV was first used in Germany during World War II for observing the launch of V-2 rockets.  The systems are still used today at launch sites to record flights and to detect causes of malfunction.  However, according to Wikipedia, the technology first gained use in the security sector when the city of Olean, New York installed a CCTV network on its main business street.  Other banks and stores (including your local supermarket) soon followed suit.

Security camera shopping tips

You’d think shopping for a security camera would be simple—all it has to do is view and record the spots around your home or business, right?  However, there is actually a wide degree of variance in the security camera market.  If you want to make sure you end up with a quality device, you’ll have to know some details about what you’re looking for.

First, you should decide if you want to go wireless or not.  Wired security cameras have an advantage in that they experience no interference, but they are limited in the distance they can be installed from the security monitoring system.  Another bonus of wired cameras is that there doesn’t have to be a power supply at the spot where the camera is installed.

Logitech offers a new, easy-setup digital security system

On August 3, Logitech released its new Logitech Alert HD video security system.  Despite the long list of modifiers, their new system is actually based around its simplicity and adaptability.  The 750i Master System retails for $299.99, while the 750e Outdoor Master System (with night-vision!) starts at $349.99.  These systems are HD cameras which you can easily connect to your PC and Internet to watch stored footage.  Even better, the systems offer free remote viewing over a PC or Mac computer.

Of course, one camera won’t be enough for most houses, so you can purchase as many add-on cameras as you like, starting at $229.99.  There’s no limit to the amount of locations you can connect to your Master System, with up to six camera spots available at every location.  The add-on cameras store footage directly, which is automatically backed up onto your PC every time you connect to your network.
